IDX's CEO and Leading Privacy Expert, Tom Kelly, Discusses Data Breaches and Cybersecurity Protection in a Crisis
As featured on The Price of Business Show with Kevin Price
Entry points for data breaches and hackers looking to infiltrate a businesses’ privacy are rapidly increasing as organizations around the globe scramble to shore up cybersecurity protections. IDX President and CEO Tom Kelly joins Price of Business host Kevin Price to unpack the evolving attack surface and some digital hygiene best practices.
With increasing cyber vulnerabilities for small scale and large-scale businesses on the rise, it’s important corporations understand these attacks are nonstop, unrelenting and need to be anticipated. Rather than waiting for the next attack to hit, we should always be asking ourselves, “How can we be the most prepared?”
The lack of preventative cybersecurity measures within companies can also be attributed to the shortage of CISOs in many corporations. With the shortage of cybersecurity personnel to mitigate these kinds of attacks, Kelly stresses that these positions are now more than ever essential jobs in the cybersecurity workforce right now.
Kelly recommends business leaders take cybersecurity more seriously, as we never know when the next attack is looming. He also shares that, in 2020 alone, there were more than 3,000 confirmed cyberattacks including the recent T-Mobile data breach and ransomware attack on Colonial Pipeline and that number is only rising.
In addition to filling the CISO role, corporations must have good plans in place on how to respond to a breach to limit costs and recover data quickly. They must also practice good digital hygiene, and consider backing up their data regularly, so they always have the ability to restore.
