IDX’s CEO and President Tom Kelly Comments on Digital Privacy in an Episode of the Privacy Please Podcast

Executives discusses cyber crimes and how to protect their digital privacy with IDX privacy

As rampant cyberattacks persist, digital privacy is more vulnerable than ever before. By joining the digitally interconnected world, you give away a significant amount of your privacy.

But that doesn’t mean that you need to give it all up. There are feasible ways to keep most of your personal information personal. In Tom Kelly’s latest interview on the Privacy Please podcast, he discusses the attack on digital privacy and how consumers can keep their information safe.

As Tom discusses, performing regular digital hygiene is the first step to improving your digital privacy. One of the best ways to do this is by creating more complex passwords and avoiding public Wi-Fi networks. Cybercriminals can easily guess simple passwords and, with some fairly basic hacking skills, can collect personal data from anyone using a public network. To avoid this, privacy-conscious consumers should invest in a VPN and remember to frequently change these passwords.

But as Tom also talks about, our privacy is threatened by the apps we use. Remembering to turn off your location on your phone when you don’t need it is key. Many apps require geolocation, but few automatically turn off your location when the app is no longer running. To keep your location more private, remember to turn off geolocation whenever possible. Additionally, be careful what you post online because even your private accounts aren’t really private. Safety features on social media apps like Instagram aren’t actually secure enough to keep your posts out of the hands of cybercriminals.

Following these digital hygiene routines is valuable, but they aren’t comprehensive privacy practices. To learn about limiting the risks of cybercrime and protecting your privacy, you can listen to Tom's interview, and to take back charge of your digital privacy, consider adding IDX Privacy to your digital arsenal.
