IDX CEO Tom Kelly on How COVID-19 has Enlarged the Digital Footprint for American Businesses
Tom Kelly, IDX President and CEO, stated in his recent op-ed for Security Magazine, the American digital footprint has never been bigger and threats to privacy never more acute as millions of people work from home to help stop the spread of COVID-19. And as with most digital trends, there’s an inescapable link to cybercrime. As news continues to emerge of the recent Russian data breach on American government systems and operations, the risk of compromise to every organization is inevitable.
Consumers must be more vigilant than ever to secure every digital identity and transaction they make online, as each new platform used and login made, increases the risk of exposure and tracking by cybercriminals. As Americans increasingly become more reliant on smart devices and technology, Kelly urges users to aggressively secure data before it's too late.
A study from Fidelity National Information Services (FIS) shows a 200 percent increase in online banking in the month of April alone, further reinforcing the need for cybersecurity measures that help to prevent hackers from accessing personal data. And customers aren’t the only ones at risk; businesses must think holistically about all of their platforms. In a recent study by the Ponemon Institute, 82 percent of IT and C-suite respondents reported at least one cybersecurity breach resulting from digital transformation efforts made within the last year.
As we continue to look toward the future, Americans need to protect themselves against online threats. IDX Privacy provides this protection as an easy-to-use platform that enables users to secure their digital privacy.
