IDX’s CEO and President Tom Kelly shares how to detect spyware for Yahoo Life
With the dramatic rise in cybercrime over the past couple of years, criminals are increasingly targeting consumers to get access to the organizations they work for and do business with. It’s been reported that more than 43% of cyberattacks are aimed at small businesses, according to a recent study by Accenture’s Cost of Cybercrime Study. In a recent interview with Yahoo Life, President and CEO of IDX Tom Kelly shares how to detect spyware and identify when you may be a victim of this malicious software.
For a bit of background, spyware is a portion of software that enables a user to obtain covert information about another’s computer activities and be able to transmit this data from their hard drive. It is extremely difficult to remove and almost always has malicious intentions. For example, it might be used to violate a user’s privacy or endanger a device’s security settings.
In the interview, Tom breaks down how you can detect spyware on your device. One of the often “telltale signs” of spyware is when unusual things begin to pop up on your computer. These might include random pop-up ads in your browser, new toolbars, unfamiliar icons, random error messages, and more.
Another sign is slower downloading speeds when downloading or saving files. If you think you may have spyware on your device, Tom recommends downloading an anti-malware software, as the sole purpose of it is to scan hard drives and remove threats.
As cyber threats continue to increase for consumers, IDX always suggests adding a consumer privacy protection product like IDX Privacy to your arsenal. Solutions like IDX Privacy can help minimize threats and risk and ensure consumers are protected from malicious hackers and potential cyberattacks.
